What I'm Reading

Quick, what's going on in Sri Lanka? Don't know, go here! (hint: it's big, long lasting and deserves our attention)

Retirees looking to for a vacation spot? How about Iraq?

Rundown of what's going on in the world of aid workers. Attacks on aid workers are seemingly becoming more prevalent. I don't know if it's because the shield that, at one time, surrounded aid workers is faltering or if there are just more people working in the aid field overseas, in more dangerous places...

Leave it to Blood & Milk to bring in the aptly titled blog: What to do Instead of Starting (another) NGO. Said a bit nicer, the premises is realize your idea is being done somewhere else and instead of reinventing the wheel and doing it poorly (my wording), humble yourself, and work with an organization that is doing what you have in mind. At 22 (32) you don't know everything, so go work for someone else.

And while we're at it, the LRA & FDLR continue their attacks in the Congo. As one blogger put it: "The only thing the recent Rwandan and Ugandan military operations in DRC accomplished was to push the LRA and FDLR deeper into Congolese territory."
