When a victim arrives at Memorial Hospital Downtown, they meet with a Forensic Nurse who does a complete exam, collects evidence, and ensures the patient has access to the services they need.
Many victims end up giving up their clothing and shoes during the evidence process. The nurses often don’t have shoes to give them, meaning the patient leaves barefoot.
It’s such a small thing - a pair of new shoes. But for a survivor of violence - it can be a small comfort and the restoration of dignity in the start of their process towards healing.
